Ventenac is in an ideal position for exploring the Aude departément, Languedoc and beyond. Nestling below the Minervois to the north, the village boasts its own wine chateau where one is encouraged to taste the excellent local wines and discover the attached museum.

Canal du MidiCanal-du-Midi - this famous navigation built in the 1600s is a World Heritage Site and offers much to the traveller.  Cruise along the canal on a hired boat, cycle on the tow path or just marvel at the historic sites along its route. The local road winds its way next to the canal on its way to Carcassonne and is quite beautiful.


Carcassonne CitadelCarcassonne - Carcassonne is the largest intact Medieval Citadel in Europe.  Steeped in history, this fortification is exceptional  and can be explored at will.

Minerve - A historic Cathar village in the Minervois, sitting across a spectacular gorge.

Corbieres - to the south, the hills and mountains are home to this famous wine region and boast a multitude of ancient castles all waiting to be explored and  enjoyed.

MiditerraneanNarbonne & the Mediterranean- a bustling city with shopping centres, markets, Roman remains and cathedral.  Not far from here you'll discover sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. Narbonne Plage and others offer everything for the 'bucket & spade' holiday.

WindsurferWatersports and activities - The Lac de Jouarres offers swimming, and watersports and of course pleasurecraft can be hired on the canal..

CyclingWalking and Cycling - cycling by the Canal du Midi is becoming one of those must do adventures. With stunning scenery and a plethora of historic sites along its route you can take it all in at your own pace. If you really want a challenge, then cycle the full route from Toulouse to Marseillan a mere 280km! Ventenac is also a perfect base from which to explore the Minervois on foot and for real mountaineering the Pyrenees can be reached by car in in an hour or so. Quality bike hire is available in the next village, route planning, baggage drop of etc are all available. Please enquire for details.

MountainsSkiing - A 2.5 hour drive up the Aude Valley will get you to the Pyrenees and possible skiing or snow-shoeing.

CarcassonneTax Free Shopping - Andorra and Catalunya are all possible in a day trip.  Barcelona in under 3 hours with a stop off at the Dali Museum in Figueros on the way back will fulfil most peoples sightseeing requirements.
